About Wimborne
Wimborne Minster is an attractive town, which still today retains a friendly market atmosphere and is located at the confluence of the River Stour and River Allen in the beautiful East Dorset countryside. The town which dates from Roman times has as its focal point the beautiful Minster, with parts believed to date back to the 12th century.
Wimborne town offers a variety of local shops including small interesting independents and large multi-nationals including Somerfield, Fat Face and WH Smiths. The major banks are represented in town together with a Post Office, Tourist Information and Citizens Advice Bureau. Excellent recreational and entertainment facilities are available including the famous Tivoli Theatre, clubs for various interests, a sports centre together with various sports clubs including football, rugby, cricket, bowls and tennis. The towns surrounding residential areas including Colehill, Merley, Corfe Mullen and outlying villages are served by a selection of excellent first, middle, upper schools together with a number of private schools all with fine reputations.
Wimborne is well located with the twin resort towns of Poole and Bournemouth being some 6 and 8 miles distant respectively both offering excellent shopping and recreational facilities together with mainline rail links to London. The beautiful Dorset Countryside is close to hand including the Purbeck Hills, Poole Harbour, Cranborne Chase and the New Forest.
